Barnstones Feb/Mar 2025

Updated: 1 hour ago

This was a new venue for the Caravan and Motor home club Singers, with the sun shining from when we arrived we were met by the rally Marshalls Basil Raddy, Patrick and Sarah Farrelly.

To avoid cutting up the grass the Marshalls managed to get us parked using the hard road

surface around the site, with large vans to park it was very well done.

Friday evening was the first practice session but firstly our chairman Viv Doveston welcomed three new couples, two from the South Essex centre who we first met last year when we performed at their rally. Viv hoped they would enjoy the first of many rallies with us. She also said how good it was to get together again to enjoy everyone’s company and enjoy our singing.

So led by our Musical director Brian Rollings with Roger Reading providing the music backing we began to retrace some favourites and gradually over the weekend were introduced to some new ones which may be in future concert programmes. On the first evening as is usual we finished the practice session with nibbles and natter to catch up on meeting old and new friends.

Saturdays practice was shortened as the hall had another long standing booking but the evening social was held in the very small Village hall a ten minute walk away which used to be the Methodist Chapel. As space was limited there was limited room so we all had been asked to make a list of two lies and a truth which turned into both an amusing and very interesting evening as we tried to find the truths . The ingenuity of some of the lies was remarkable and not easy to distinguish from the truth. Tony Dibsdall’s 90th birthday is also coming up so we celebrated with sparkling wine and cake made by Renato and also a Happy Birthday rendition.

Raffle winners collected their prizes, this years charity is for Prostate cancer. We had fewer events last year to support last years charity so it’s been extended to 2025.

After reflections lead by Carol Kyle practice began at 9.30am on Sunday morning when it was good to have Baz and Roger on guitar for some favourites. Sunday lunch followed later at 2.30 at the neighbouring village for those not dashing to get home. The meal was held at the Moon and Sixpence and it was a lovely meal and very nice venue.

We had learnt in Viv’s closing thanks that we will be using the venue for the rally next year and is already booked, let’s hope the sun is shining again!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to make it such a great weekend.
